How Super-K Additive Works:

(1) Cause of lead-acid battery’s deterioration: In the past, it has been said that deterioration of battery comes from deterioration of positive terminal of the battery. When positive terminal is deteriorated, charging voltage does not go up beyond 13.0 ~ 13.5V. And then, charger keeps supplying big current judging battery is not fully charged yet. It causes over-charging and damages positive terminal of the battery.

(1-a) From many years study and tests, we've found that
“Major reason for deterioration of battery” comes from deterioration of negative terminal.

- Deterioration comes from Sulfation of negative terminal
- “Sulfation”: Lead sulfate changing to large crystallines
- Sulfation reduces charging capacity of the battery
- “Cause of Sulfation” comes from reduction of hydrogen over-voltage.

From our research, approx. 80% of lead-acid batteries were replaced and abandoned due to sulfation.

(1-b) Other reasons of battery deterioration include:

Over-charging: When electrolyte temperature is high, positive terminal is corroded and deteriorated. Deteriorated positive terminal causes over-charging of the battery.
Deep discharge: When too big current is discharged, it reduces battery charging capacity.
Shortage of water in the battery: It causes increase of electrolyte’s specific gravity, and then it causes insufficient charging.

(2)Super-K additive will dissolve within the battery cell gradually, and its main component,
organic polymer particles will be absorbed on the electrodes. Then, it works to avoid sulfation which is a cause of deterioration of battery and works to activate electrodes by breaking up large crystallines (i.e. sulfation).
Other activators/additives until now could not solve the fundamental problem with deterioration of lead-acid battery, because those additives could not eliminate sulfation.

(3)Two types of Super-K Activator:
@ P Type: Fast effect , General use for SLI(starting, lighting and Ignition) batteries Effervescent when charging is done with high current (Ampere), and diluted sulfuric acid may overflow. May need to adjust charging current depending on charger type/charging method.
Available in powder and tablet

A A Type: Easy to handle
Good for batteries for forklift, golf cart etc. Good for tubular type battery Available in powder (should be applied directly into battery electrolyte)

Why Super-K is special and unique ?

  • Until now, most of additives or activators for lead-acid batteries use fine powder of solid materials such as barium sulfate, lignin and carbon black for negative electrode. They are generally called an “expander”. But, none of them can eliminate fundamental reason (sulfation on the negative terminal) for battery deterioration. They only extend battery life temporarily.
  • We found that organic polymer soluble in the acid electrolyte is very effective in extending the life cycle and improving the discharge capacity of lead-acid batteries.
  • Super-K additive reduces and eliminates sulfation, and works to activate electrodes by breaking up large crystallines. With addition of Super-K additive, water and proper charging, battery is regenerated and battery life can be dramatically extended.

  • (Remarks) Super-K won’t be effective for lead-acid batteries where their electrodes and terminals are detached from battery cells, or severely damaged mechanically.

    "Why we could create Super-K?"

    Super-K is developed by ITE (International Technology Exchange Society) Battery Research Institute, which is a non-profit society registered in the U.S.A. ITE was established by Dr. Akiya Kozawa, Ex-Fellow of Union Carbide Corporation and Ex-Professor at Tohoku (National) University, for the purpose of developing new technology for lead-acid battery and extending battery life.
    Super-K was created after many years of extensive research, experiments by world’s leaders in this field. Five researchers obtained Doctor’s degrees at Yamagata University from the co-operative studies and guidance from Dr. Kozawa and professors at four Japanese universities.

    In the past, it was common understanding that adding soluble materials into battery will deteriorate battery. Therefore, only additives non-soluble to sulfuric acid such as barium sulfate, lignin powder and carbon powder etc. were used for negative electrode of battery cell.
    Super-K organic polymer activator is the world’s first effective additive for lead-acid battery using polymer soluble in sulfuric acid. This organic polymer (mainly PVA polyvinyl alcohol) will do no harm even if it is added too much, because it will be oxidative decomposed at positive electrode and will be gradually reduced. Deterioration at positive electrode caused by chemical reaction of the additive will be recovered by charging the battery and there won’t be any harm.
    Also, the organic polymer has large size molecules and is slow in dispersion. Therefore, oxidative decomposition of the polymer at positive electrode takes long time like a year, resulting in long time effectiveness of the additive.
